Our story

Built from real experience

KinJourney began with my own family's experience.

I'm Emma, the founder of KinJourney and a parent of a child with SEND.

Over the years, I found myself managing an ever-growing amount of information - reports, assessments, appointments, emails, recommendations, medication changes and updates from different professionals.

Like so many families, I needed to keep track of it all.

But I realised the challenge wasn't only about keeping everything organised.

It was understanding the bigger picture.

When the information is scattered, the connections can be too

Important information can sit across different reports, emails, notes and points in time.

One professional may make a recommendation in one report. Months later, something similar may appear somewhere else. A change in behaviour, support or medication may make more sense when viewed alongside what was happening at the time.

But when you're living the journey as well as managing all the information that comes with it, making those connections isn't always easy.

I found myself wanting to be able to answer simple but important questions:

  • What has changed?
  • What keeps coming up?
  • What has been recommended before?
  • What's working well?
  • Are there patterns across different reports or points in time that aren't obvious when each piece of information is looked at separately?

That thinking became the starting point for KinJourney.

More than somewhere to store documents

I didn't want to create another digital filing cabinet.

I wanted somewhere that could help make the information itself more useful.

A place to keep important documents together and make complex reports easier to understand.

A place to build a clear Journey of appointments, achievements, notes, medication changes and other important moments.

And importantly, a place that could bring information from across that Journey together - helping to surface recurring themes, changes, recommendations, support needs, strengths and things that are working well.

That's why Patterns became such an important part of KinJourney.

Sometimes the important part isn't contained in one document. It's what becomes clearer when information from across the journey is brought together.

From our journey to many different journeys

KinJourney started with my experience as a SEND parent, but the underlying challenge isn't unique to SEND.

People and families navigating disability, health conditions, care or other ongoing support can face the same problem: lots of important information, gathered over time, from different people and different places.

That's why KinJourney has been designed to support many different kinds of journeys.

Every person's circumstances are different, but the need to feel organised, informed and able to understand the bigger picture is something many of us share.

What I hope KinJourney can do

KinJourney isn't here to replace the professionals supporting you or to make decisions for you.

It's there to help you make better use of the information you already have.

  • To spend less time searching for things.
  • To make complex information easier to understand.
  • To keep a clearer record of what's happened.
  • And to help bring together information that might otherwise remain scattered across different places and points in time.

Most of all, I hope it gives people a little more clarity in journeys that can sometimes feel like a lot to manage.
